One week ago, I failed to send you my usual Sunday weekly letter, and there's a compelling reason behind it. I was on my way to Charleston, SC, embarking on the initial leg of a 1000-mile, two-day road trip – just me and my Bernadoodle, Lola.
This journey traces back a decade, prompting reflection on the notions of paths, signs, and synchronicities. Do you believe in the interconnectedness of these elements?
I do. I hold the belief that even if we may not comprehend the reasons in the midst of unfolding events, with time, the threads of those experiences weave together, revealing the whys, wheres, whats, and whos. As you connect these dots, there's a reassuring smile directed to someone above, a guiding presence watching over, ensuring they've got your back – whoever that divine force may be for you.
In the inaugural year of establishing my new real estate brokerage, I embarked on a quest for the industry's premier CRM system for my team. It led me to discover Boomtown, a company headquartered in Charleston, SC. My introduction to this remarkable city unfolded during their inaugural conference, an event I had the privilege to attend.
Every year, I made my way down, and each time, I fell head over heels for their Southern hospitality, rich history, charming architecture, mouthwatering food, delightful shopping, waterfront living – the list goes on :) Then, one year for my Birthday, which always falls during Spring break and would celebrate with my children somewhere warm , I decided to switch things up. Instead of our usual Caribbean getaway, I took my two daughters to experience the charm of this town.
During that trip, my youngest daughter also caught the "CHS bug." When the time came years later for her to apply to colleges back in MA, she had just one out-of-state choice in mind – the College of Charleston. She told me, "Mom, if I get accepted, I am going there," and needless to say, I was over the moon to hear it.
And now, here we are, in the midst of her junior year, savoring one of the most incredible college experiences. It's wild to think that she wouldn't have even thought about applying to Charleston if I hadn't swapped the beach for the city on that birthday trip years ago. And I wouldn't have had that chance if I hadn't opened my own company, leading me to seek out a new vendor and stumble upon a Southern-based gem that just happened to host annual events... you catch the drift, right? Life's twists and turns are something else.
During last year's parents' weekend visit, I strolled down the streets, imagining how much my dog would love these walks with me. I got a bit lost and stumbled upon a part of town called Colonial Lake. In that moment, I thought to myself, "If I lived here, this is where I'd want to be." I vividly envisioned embracing a longer stay down here and relishing the joy of an outdoor lifestyle. Fast forward a year, and what was once a dream turned into reality. A week ago I took action, and now I'm writing this letter to you from my Airbnb at Colonial Lake. My dog, Lola, is happily worn out from our daily walks in the fresh air. My daughter is here too, peacefully napping beside me. I just negotiated a contract for a client and working on a second one, this is my new reality, my home away from home, my office away from my office, who knew it was always in the works all along!
I find myself the happiest and most grateful woman on the planet, still smiling up above each day and offering profuse thanks to whoever is guiding my beautiful journey. Life is truly something special!
We try to control so much yet all we have to do is embrace change, trust our instincts and remain open to unexpected opportunities.
I hope you have a beautiful Charleston chapter just down the road waiting for you very soon ❤️💫
With Love,
Susana
